📢 PhD Scholarship Opportunity – Naturally Occurring Retirement Communities (NORCs) to support ageing in place

I am currently recruiting a PhD candidate for my ARC Future Fellowship project at Queensland University of Technology (QUT):

“Naturally Occurring Retirement Communities: Our Future for Ageing in place?”

The fully funded PhD scholarship will understand the formation of Naturally Occurring Retirement Communities (NORCs) and examine how NORCs facilitate older Australians’ ageing-in-place.

The project will use grounded theory and life story interviews (or workshops) to develop a theoretical and practical NORC model in the Australian context (explaining why older Australians choose to move into NORCs, and what and how factors shape them), which will enable policy makers to support senior Australians’ independent living in NORCs.

The candidate needs to meet the entry requirements for a QUT's Doctor of Philosophy, including any English language requirements. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential, as the project involves close engagement with older adults during data collection. It is preferred that you have relevant expertise in grounded theory or qualitative research. However, I also welcome applicants from a range of disciplinary backgrounds, including urban planning, architecture, construction management, linguistic and social science, or related fields. Applicants currently residing in Australia are particularly encouraged to apply, so that you can begin the PhD candidature at an earlier stage.

If you are interested, please send me (paul.xia@qut.edu.au) an email detailing your academic and research background, your CV and a cover letter outlining your interest in the project, relevant skills and experience, and how your background aligns with the research.

Please share with anyone who may be interested.
