PhD Topic
Developing an Age-Friendly Assessment Framework (AFAF) for Australian Communities: A Case Study of Brisbane
PhD research Summary
The broad aim of this PhD project is to develop a systems-based understanding of age-friendliness in Australian communities. The specific aim is to create and pilot a framework for assessing age-friendly communities that captures how different WHO Age-Friendly Cities and Communities domains interact, rather than treating them as separate components. Using Greater Brisbane as a proof-of-concept case, this project will integrate international and Australian age-friendly indicators, participatory input from older people, and systems modelling methods to identify key relationships, causal roles and priority areas for action. The findings will support more transparent, context-sensitive and community-informed decision-making, contributing to the development of more inclusive, liveable and age-friendly Australian communities.
